A proper snow guard layout and installation is always considered a part of our installations and restorations, and is highly recommended with any steep slope, cold climate slate roofing application.
Snowguards are used to protect:
Gutters and down spouting
Entryways, walkways
Parking lots, drive through areas
Expensive landscaping
Lower roofs & valleys
Skylites & roof protrusions
Styles and metal types are both an effective and attractive addition to your slate roof. *Some styles are easily retro-fitted on an existing slate roof.

An inexpensive/cheap snow guard with an ineffective layout will cause damage to both the snow guard and the slate as well as any material or structure below it. The images below show the result of an inefective/cheap snow guard system and installation.

Note the bent snow guards and the broken slate.

Note the face nail used to fasten the snow guard.
The images below show an effective and very attractive snow guard system.
